The Flat Stanley Project

Piano Man

Flat Stanley is all over the world. Teachers and student from many languages, cultures and countries have been sharing Flat Stanley all over.

The Story

This story is about a young boy named Stanley who is accidentally squished "as flat as a pancake" when a bulletin board falls on him. Stanley is very, very flat but otherwise fine. The story goes on to tell how Stanley discovers some real advantages to being flat. He can slide under doors, go down into sidewalk grates, and even fold himself up small enough to fit into an envelope and be mailed anywhere in the world for an exciting vacation.

Theme Song

Tim "The Piano Man" Williams composed and recorded the official Flat Stanely theme song which is available on his Like a Penguin CD. You may also listen to it on the video below.

How Flat Stanley Works
Students make paper Flat Stanleys and begin a journal with him for a few days. Then Flat Stanley and the journal are sent to another school where students there treat Flat Stanley as a guest and complete the journal. Flat Stanley and the journal are then returned. Often, a Flat Stanley returns with a pin or postcard from his visit. Especially creative hosts send the Flat Stanleys back with pictures, souvenirs, stories and reminders of the visit.
